Barnstable, Massachusetts, September 17, 2012 – OpenCape Corporation (OpenCape) announced today that it has selected Daniel Vortherms as its new Chief Executive Officer. OpenCape’s current CEO, Dan Gallagher, will leave the position on October 12th, 2012.
Mr. Vortherms was most recently the Vice President of Technology for Open Range Communications. He was one of the original members of the Open Range staff, developing the technical and business model that culminated in closing $400m in financing in 2009 to build a 4G wireless network in small communities around the United States.
Prior to joining Open Range, Mr. Vortherms held positions as Vice President of Network Deployment for Vivato Incorporated, a manufacturer of phased array antenna systems for WiFi and WiMAX deployments, Vice President of Engineering and Operations of Vistard Inc, a metro wireless broadband company, and Vice President of Product Development for Verio where he built the company’s first network operations center (NOC) and played an important role in the company’s acquisition of nearly sixty companies prior to its acquisition by NTT Communications for $6 billion.
Prior to his more recent involvement in venture capital start-up companies, Mr. Vortherms spent ten years working for EG&G Incorporated, a fortune 200 company, providing system engineering support for submarine combat system design and nuclear weapons systems safety, and was a Submarine Warfare Officer and Naval Nuclear Propulsion Plant Engineer in the US Navy. He retired as a Captain from the US Naval Reserve.
Mr. Vortherms has a BS degree from the U. S. Naval Academy, MS from George Washington University, and an MBA from the University of Denver.
